New Orleans is the proud hometown of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, the legendary jazz trumpeter and singer who forever changed American music.
This month, we pay homage to one of America’s most beloved musicians at the 13th Annual Satchmo SummerFest.
During the weekend of August 1-4, New Orleans residents and visitors can enjoy a festival like no other. Entertainment will include live local music from genres including traditional and contemporary jazz, brass bands, and children’s music, performed every day of the festival. Performers will include the following (among others):
- Leroy Jones
- Jeremy Davenport
- Connie Jones’ Crescent City Jazz Band
- Yoshio Toyama and the Dixie Saints
- The Palmetto Bug Stompers
- Rebirth Brass Band
The festival will also offer opportunities to hear from speakers who knew or were inspired by Louis Armstrong. These speakers will include recording industry legend George Avakian, Armstrong scholar and Grammy Award winner Dan Morgenstern, and others.
This four-day festival will also feature a Louis Armstrong birthday party, traditional second line parade, and other exciting events!
And of course, no New Orleans festival would be complete without our famous local cuisine. Restaurants in the area will be serving food and drinks loved by Louis Armstrong.
