A DWI Checkpoint has been announced for tonight in New Orleans, specifically in the Marigny neighborhood.

The New Orleans Police Department, per the requirments of Louisiana State law, has issued the following statement:

“As required by the Louisiana Supreme Court, the New Orleans Police Department is issuing a public advisory regarding a sobriety checkpoint that will be conducted tomorrow (August 9, 2012) night. The New Orleans Police Department’s Traffic Division will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Faubourg Marigny area beginning at approximately 9:00 P.M., and will conclude at approximately 5:00 A.M.”

DWI Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols are an increasingly used tool of law enforcement to increase drunk driving and drug arrests. They are extensively used during the holiday season and during Mardi Gras and other special events and festivals that are associated with increased alcohol consumption. Thus, it is critically important that if you have been drinking (more than one drink per hour on average may be sufficient to cause legal intoxication) that you carefully consider whether you should be driving. Otherwise, you may find yourself stopped at a DWI checkpoint or by a saturation patrol and placed under arrest.Mobile car accident
