The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that State Police booked a LaPlace, Louisiana man with his fourth DWI in five months after he struck a curb and blew a tire on Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana. The suspect had a toddler under the age of 5 with him in the vehicle, according to the paper:
The suspect pulled into a car dealership in the 6600 block of Veterans Boulevard after the accident, which occurred nearby at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to arrest reports and Trooper Nick Manale, spokesman for the State Police. Employees at the dealership called 911 to handle the accident.
A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy dispatched to the scene notified State Police, who had jurisdiction on the accident, Manale said. But the deputy suspected that the suspect was under the influence of some substance, according to the arrest report.
The suspect had blood-shot eyes and smelled faintly of alcohol. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test, the arrest report said. The suspect’s blood alcohol content was .064, under the .08 legal limit.
But Manale said the trooper suspected both alcohol and drug impairment. Blood and urine samples were taken. Those test results are pending.
The suspect, of LaPlace, Louisiana, was booked Sunday with DWI-fourth arrest, child endangerment and driving with a suspended license, Manale said.
The suspect has three previous arrests for DWI beginning in October. His first arrest was on Halloween in Ascension Parish, reports said. He went on to be arrested again for drunk driving in November and in December, both times in St. John the Baptist Parish. No dispositions on those cases were available Tuesday.
The suspect was still being held Tuesday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $55,250 bond. He could not be reached for comment.
